While, it is our endeavor to provide best of services to all the passengers, there are certain categories of passengers, who need extra attention by virtue of their condition, age, nature or status. And AIR INDIA (IC) is more than willing to provide this "extra attention" to these passengers.

Some of these categories are:

Unaccompanied Minors (UM) are children above 5 years and under 12 years (i.e., up to, but not including the 12th birthday) of age and travelling alone on firm tickets.

Minors below 5 years or those who are handicapped can only be accepted for travel if accompanied by an escort.

Children are considered escorted when accompanied by another passenger who is over 18 years and is a known relative or friend.

Young passengers (YP) are children between the age of 12 and 16 years and travelling alone, whose parents/guardians have specifically requested AIR-INDIA (IC) for assistance for their wards.

Parent/guardian of the UM / YP who comes to see off at the airport will be required to fill up a form. After filling of the form, Customer Services staff will assist the UM / YP for check-in and boarding. Passengers are requested to advise our staff, so that necessary arrangements could be made.

Expectant mothers in normal health can be accepted for travel up to 35th week. This would be on the basis of a self-declaration given by the passenger that would also inter-alia confirm that she is in normal health and without complications. In such circumstances medical certificate is not necessary.

From the 36th to 38th week, expectant mothers in normal health can be accepted for travel with a medical certificate from the concerned doctor certifying her fitness to travel in sitting position. The passenger will also have to submit an indemnity bond.Click here for Indemnity bond.

In abnormal conditions, regardless of the number of weeks, an expectant mother is required to submit a medical certificate from the concerned doctor certifying her fit to travel in a sitting position and an Indemnity bond.

Less than seven days form the confinement, passengers will not be permitted to travel.

New born baby and the mother can be accepted for travel only after seven days of the delivery. However, in the case of normal delivery, they can be accepted after 48 hours of delivery provided the treating obstetrician certifies mother (in sitting position) and pediatrician certifies child as fit to travel by air.

Exceptionally, for life saving treatment for the newborn, the mother and child can be accepted for travel within seven days of delivery, against a medical certificate of the obstetrician and pediatrician. These passenger has to be accompanied by a doctor. In such cases also, an indemnity bond is required.

Our reservation agent must be apprised about the facts at the time of seeking reservation, so that necessary action could be taken in advance.

At the Airport, our staff will provide assistance to passengers with Disability and / or Reduced Mobility.

Wheel chairs requests:

Requests for wheelchair assistance may be made in advance while making reservations. Assistance can also be provided if informed during check-in. However, this may lead to delay in providing effective service.

You may also use your own wheel chair and we can usually arrange to carry your wheel chair / mobility aid on the flight .

If you have a battery powered wheel chair, you need to take certain safeguards before the same can be accepted for carriage. Please ask for details in advance.

Seating:

Subject to availability, we shall endeavour to provide suitable seat on board for your comfort at the time of receiving such requests. For convenience, persons requiring special assistance and their escorts are usually boarded before the normal boarding takes place.

Escorts:

Generally escorts may not be needed for passengers who declare independence in feeding, communication with reasonable accommodation, toileting and personal needs. However, escort will be required for persons travelling in a stretcher or incubator or as decided by the physician.

Medical clearance :

Medical clearance is not required for persons who only require special assistance at the Airport for embarking / disembarking. However, medical clearance is required in the following cases when a passenger:-

  1. suffers from any disease, which is believed to be actively contagious and communicable;

  2. who, because of certain disease, or incapacitation may have or develop an adverse physical condition which could have an adverse effect during flight and on safety and emergency evacuation procedures;

  3. would require medical attention and / or special equipment to maintain their health during the flights;

  4. there exists a possibility of medical condition aggravated during or because of the flight;

Passenger on Stretcher:

Carriage of stretcher patients / medical equipment is by advance arrangement. Due to technical limitations, stretcher passengers can be carried on select aircraft only. The applicable fare is six times the Normal Fare component plus one time Surcharge / taxes as applicable. Escort passengers will be carried at applicable fare/taxes/surcharges separately. Note: Persons with specific disabilities should plan to have the required information ready in advance, to avoid flight delays. Medical Information Sheet( MEDIF ) can be downloaded from our Website www.airindia.in >IC coded flights >downloads. MEDIF is required to be filled in and signed by the attending physician detailing the medical condition of the passenger and also by the passenger or on his/her behalf.

No animal other than small inoffensive pets and trained guide dogs may be carried in passenger compartments occupied by passengers provided that:

  1. Not more than two crates of pets are carried at a time.
  2. The pets and guide dogs are not allowed to occupy a passenger seat.
  3. A moisture absorbent mat is placed under the pet / guide dog.
  4. Other passengers do not object to the presence of the pets/guide dogs in the passenger compartment.
  5. The guide dog is properly restrained and muzzled.
  6. Pets other than such dogs are carried in suitable containers.

No animal will be carried in pressurized aircraft, if the atmosphere in the passenger or flight deck compartments is likely to be contaminated by the animal to such an extent as to affect the health of the passengers or crew.

For carriage on flights ex foreign stations, the carriage will be as per local laws.

ForIt is requested that our staff is apprised of the same in advance, so that necessary arrangements could be made.

Individual Passengers or groups of passengers with the potential to behave in a disorderly manner generally fall into the following categories:

  • Apparently intoxicated or under the influence of drugs or alcohol to the extent of physical incompetence.
  • Engage in disorderly or offensive conduct to the discomfort or distress of other passengers and flight attendants.
  • Are violent to the extent that there is a possibility of injuries to passengers or flight attendants or damage to the aircraft.
  • Are apparently unsound mind;
  • Are known or suspected of being in possession of firearms;
  • Fail to adhere to instructions by Crew / Ground personnel.

In such situation, Airline may decide to offload such passengers.

AIR INDIA (IC) may refuse carriage of any passenger or passenger's baggage for reasons of safety or if, in the exercise of its reasonable discretion, it determines that.

  1. Such action is necessary in order to comply with any applicable government laws, regulations or orders.

  2. The carriage of passenger or baggage may endanger or affect the safety, health, or materially affect the comfort of other passenger or crew.

  3. Passenger's mental or physical state, including impairment from alcohol or drugs, presents a hazard or risk to him or her, to co-passengers, to crews or property.

  4. Passenger has committed misconduct on a previous flight, and carrier has reason to believe that such conduct may be repeated.

  5. The passenger has refused to submit to a security check;

  6. The passenger has not paid the applicable fare, taxes, fees or charges.

  7. Passenger do not appear to have valid travel documents, may seek to enter a country through which he or she may be in a transit, or for which he or she do not have valid travel documents, destroy travel documents during flight or refuse to surrender travel documents to the flight crew, against receipt, when so requested.

  8. Passenger present a ticket that:

    • has been acquired unlawfully,
    • has been purchased from an entity other than carrier or carrier Authorized agent, or
    • has been reported as being lost or stolen, is a counterfeit, or
    • Passenger cannot prove that he or she is the person named in the Ticket.

  9. Passenger have failed to comply with the requirements set forth in Article 3.3 of IATA Recommended Practice 1724 concerning coupon sequence and use or passenger presents a ticket which has been altered in any way, other than by AIR INDIA (IC) staff or our Authorised agent or the Ticket is mutilated.

  10. Passenger fails to observe our instructions with respect to safety or security
